Of course everyone tries to avoid it, but most of the time you can’t do anything about yellow sweat stains in your clothes. This really sucks, especially when it happens to your new shirt or t-shirt. Therefore, Suitable has found some easy ways to remove these, usually yellow, sweat stains from your clothes.

Below are 7 tips to remove yellow sweat stains from your t-shirt or shirt:

Tip 1: Dishwasher rinse aid (for white clothing)

Gently rub some rinse aid on the yellow sweat spots/stripes of your clothing, let it soak in, then put the garment in your washing machine and wash it the regular way. Usually the stains disappear after one wash from your clothes, if this is not the case, you can use a dishwasher tablet. Put the dishwasher tablet in the drum of the washing machine, placing your laundry on top. Note that since the dishwasher tablets have a bleaching effect you can only use this method for white clothes!

Tip 2: Cleaning vinegar (for dark clothes)

Many tips are intended for white garments, but sweat stains can also occur in black or other dark pieces of clothing. These are usually white or gray stains. This can be remedied by soaking the garment for a few hours in a bucket of cold water with a splash of cleaning vinegar. Afterwards, just wash it and the stains are gone. An additional advantage of cleaning vinegar is that it also neutralizes perspiration odors.

Tip 3: Sunlight or bile soap

A remedy from grandma’s time, but still available and environmentally friendly. First moisten the garment or stain and then rub the soap on it. Also, while you’re at it, include the cuffs and hems of your shirt. This will ensure an immaculate white shirt. It is best if you let the soap soak in overnight before putting it in the wash.

Tip 4: Green soap

Just the old-fashioned jar of green soap. Besides being super cheap and environmentally friendly, this works great for removing sweat stains and many other things from your clothes. Are they older stains? Then put the clothes in a plastic bag after rubbing them with the green soap, and let them soak for one to two days for best results.

Tip 5: Baking soda

Mix the baking soda with water until it coagulates into a paste. Rub this on the stains and let it soak in for about two hours. Then apply some detergent to the treated stains and rub this in thoroughly again. The final step is washing the garments again in your washing machine in the regular way.

Tip 6: Aspirins

Yes, this may sound a little weird, but with aspirins you can actually remove sweat stains. Put two aspirins in a cup of hot water and let the aspirins dissolve. Then you rub this mixture in with a small brush on the stains and let it soak in for a few hours. After that, you can wash the garment according to your regular washing program.

Tip 7: Lemon or lemon soap

You can also use a lemon to remove stains. Mix the lemon juice with water in equal amounts. Rub this mixture on the stain and let it soak in for a while and wash it with your washing machine.

It’s also perfectly fine to use lemon soap available at health food stores. With this lemon soap you can rub the sweaty spots, but make sure that the garment is wet first. After rubbing, let it soak in for a while.

Bonus tips

Better yet … some tips to prevent those nasty sweat stains.

  • Choose a deodorant that works best for you, a matter of trial and error. Always make sure you let the deodorant dry thoroughly under your armpits before you put on your clothes.
  • Wear an undershirt/T-shirt under your shirt, this will prevent sweat stains from appearing.
  • If there are still yellow stains in your clothes after washing, do not put them in the dryer. It will make the sweat stains almost impossible to remove.
