There are, however, a number of days in the year when there are orange exceptions: King's Day and during football matches of our national pride. Orange is therefore (although it's our national colour) not the most favourite colour to wear. Because we modest Dutch people don't really like to stand out, and a colour like orange doesn't help much with that.
All in or subtly orange?
But what do you wear on a day like King's Day? Is it wise to spend a few euros every year on a T-shirt that you can throw away again at the end of the evening? Or are you the type who tries to keep it stylish and funny and buys an entirely orange suit? Or do you go for the subtle look with stylish accessories?
The trick with wearing our national colour is: less is more. Wear a touch of orange on these special days. And if you're not the modest type, then you might as well go all over and go full-on.
Have you been invited to a formal occasion and aren't standing there with chattering teeth at a festival or bouncing through the city? Then the most stylish way to celebrate King's Day is by wearing a nice dark blue suit combined with an orange tie and matching orange pocket square.
Does your occasion offer the chance to go bigger than just some accessories? Then the simplest way to look good on King's Day is an orange suit or, depending on the weather, an orange jumper or orange polo shirt. Because truly anything is better than a loud slogan shirt.
So there you have it: dressing stylishly is certainly possible on King's Day.
